The Lafayette Patriots season has ended and the final record was 0-8. The season was great for the players. We had fun, we played hard but what’s most important is that we made rivals. But overall it was a very great experience and I can’t wait to get back to practice
Let’s go back to around October 5th when the Lafayette Patriots seasons first started and the coaches welcomed me with open arms. The beginning of the season was extremely tough. It felt like I was going to collapse any day, but I didn’t collapse because of sheer willpower.
After the 3rd loss, Coach Baker said to me, “To get to the diamonds you have to get through the mud and dirt first.” He was hinting that he was upset and he downplayed how hard we were playing. He said nobody played football today. I did not get playing time that day, so I was upset. I got dressed and tried to leave and he said you deserve to walk around which meant I had to go all the way around the building. I was confused and to this day do not understand why he did that, but I walked around regardless.
The next practice was different. We went twice as hard and at the end we were all exhausted. We asked why we practiced so hard, and Coach Cataldi said, “Treat everyday like it’s your last.”
The takeaway I can take from this football season is your team will always be there for you, so if you need something from someone go to them cause when no one is there they will be. The season was kind of rough but it was nice making new friends.
