At Leaders High School, the only students who are allowed to go outside for lunch are the seniors. Multiple students at Leaders were interviewed and questioned about if they believe all students attending Leaders High School should be able to go outside for lunch.
Itzel Leon, a freshman, believes that only the junior and seniors should be able to go out since they are older, about to graduate, and they know the rules better at this school.
“I feel like the freshmen are just coming into the school, so they should learn the rules first,” says Itzel. “And sophomores too.”
Aiden Negron is a sophomore who believes everyone should have access to outside lunch, that it will help students learn valuable lessons.
“I think we should all be able to go outside because a lot of people know the area pretty well, there’s a lot of things to do, and we can all learn time management,” says Aiden.
Yoana Tacuepian is a junior and she believes that all students should be able to go outside because of the constant need for food.
She states: “My opinion is that everyone should be able to have that access because as a person that’s just in my crew room during lunch, we’re always talking about how hungry we are or begging teachers to give us snacks.”
Lily Robertsen is a senior, and despite waiting many years to finally be able to go outside during lunch, she believes only seniors and possibly juniors should be allowed to go outside.
“I believe they shouldn’t, especially since freshmen and sophomores are underage, they would act more immature.”
Dennis Anderson is a staff member and former student. He believes that students should advocate for themselves but it would be difficult for the school to keep track of all students.
“Now I understand why they didn’t let the students go out for lunch. I’m glad that the school lets the seniors go out for lunch because it introduces them to new things since they are leaving for college soon and it shows them independence.”
